About Me

Dr. Maria Gruppen (she/her) is a clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience providing mental health services in schools, hospitals and a variety of outpatient settings. She currently provides individual therapy for adults 18 and older. She looks forward to working together to foster a renewed sense of hope while honoring your unique personhood and potential. She believes that creating a therapeutic environment where you feel listened to and understood is an important part of facilitating growth and therefore strives to remain curious and collaborative in your work together.

Most people enter therapy due to a sense of distress and are longing for something to change. They may even know exactly how they want their lives to change. But as they try to change they often end up encountering barriers that seem overwhelming. Dr. Gruppen values joining clients in this place, helping them to explore and unpack the complexity around these barriers and to identify patterns, narratives and behavioral responses that end up leaving them feeling so stuck.

Dr. Gruppen pulls from a wide variety of therapeutic approaches (ACT, DBT, CBP) while operating from an emotion focused, relationally psychodynamic and trauma informed foundation. Her professional areas of interest include adult ADHD, anxiety disorders/perfectionism, developmental trauma/complex trauma, depression/mood disorders, grief and loss including living with physical and/or mental illness, infertility and non-traditional roads to becoming a parent, experiencing childlessness or choosing not to become a parent, significant life transitions and challenges, spiritual issues including religious hurt/trauma or changes in one’s belief system and support for parents of teens and young adults.
